Outpatient Service or "Day Surgery" offers a wide range of outpatient care services, which includes minor surgery, treatments and medication administration. It allows patients to receive less intensive levels of care in the least amount of time, without sacrificing quality of care and outcome. An outpatient surgery is a planned procedure, not an emergency surgery. It normally does not require an overnight stay in the hospital, barring complications or continued healthcare needs. The Pre-Operative Clinic schedules appointments to individualize each patient's surgery preparation.
Surgery Waiting Room
Visitors are invited to wait in the waiting room. Our Blue Angel and/or our Day Surgery staff are available to update the family regarding your progress while they wait for you in a comfortable setting. Once your surgery is over, family/visitors will be informed when they can visit you. If you have brought a family member or friend with you, they will receive a visit from anesthesia when you have completed the initial phase of your recovery. After returning to your room, your visitors will be allowed to see you. This may be one to two hours after you are transferred to the Recovery Area.
What to Expect after Surgery
When you leave the hospital, you should expect to be awake enough to go home, but plan to continue resting at home. You probably will not feel up to doing much for the rest of the day or longer, depending on your type of surgery. Remember that you are going home to recover. You may contact a nurse after your discharge to discuss any questions or concerns you may have. Day Surgery nurses are available for questions Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. Day Surgery Unit and emergency telephone numbers are provided to patients with their discharge instruction sheets. Post-Operative teaching and home instructions are given with each patient's needs in mind. Your doctor will specify any follow-up care you may need.
Expect a "We Care" follow-up phone call one to two days after surgery. The purpose of this call is to ensure your recovery is going well and to give you an opportunity to discuss any concerns. If your surgery is on a Friday, you may be called on a Monday.
